 INTRODUCTION:
Wi-fi is a boon to today’s modern life.Although it is helpful in a wide variety of purposes ,sometimes it can be misused. To prevent this, we need to disable users from using Wifi. For this,We are proposing two ideas:
i)Wi-Fi DEAUTHER.
ii)Wi-Fi JAMMER.
Either by a Wi-fi deauther or by installing a wi-fi jammer in a given range, the Wi-fi can be blocked.
This type of blocking can be implemented in work(which deal with sensitive data), examination halls, etc…

WI-FI DEAUTHER:

A Deauther allows you to disconnect devices from a WiFi network.Usually Wi-Fi routers work on 802.11 protocol. In 802.11 protocol there are three types of frames: Data Frames,Management Frames and ControlFrames. In this protocol, the management frames are not encrypted, so it is prone to Deauth attacks.Management frames are basically composed of Authentication frames, Deauthentication Frames,Disassociation frames etc..
Using a Deauther, we can initiate two types of attacks:

DEAUTHENTICATION ATTACKS:
A wifi deauthentication attack is a type of denial of service attack that targets communication
between a user and a wifi access point. Deauther sends Deauthentication frames to selected
access point as well as devices connected to it.As a result, the devices won't be able to connect
to the access point.

BEACON ATTACKS:
Using a Deauther, we can also implement Beacon attack. It clones the SSID or generates some
random fake SSIDs. If one tries to connect to wifi ,he simply sees multiple SSIDs and it is
hard to connect to the original SSID among the fake SSIDs.

An example of how Beacon attack works.

We can initiate both the attacks simultaneously so that we can prevent anyone from connecting to the Wi-fi.To prevent Deauth attack,802.11w protocol can be implemented. But it cannot stop Beacon based attacks. The Wi-fi Routers we use usually work on 802.11 protocol, so they are prone to deauth attacks. 802.11w — Defines protected management frames for all 802.11 standards. Not all the 802.11 management frames are protected.Only the Robust management frames (action, deauthentication and disassociation frames) are protected.
A Wi-Fi deauther is different from a Wi-Fi jammer.A Deauther does not interfere with any
kind of frequencies,it enables us to specifically target a wifi access point, whereas a jammer
blocks everything within a given range.

                                            WI-FI JAMMER

A jammer is a device that blocks transmission or reception of signals, usually by creating some form of interference at the same frequency ranges that wifi uses(2.4Ghz).As a result, the user will either lose the signal or experience a significant loss of signal quality.

TYPES OF JAMMING:

SPOT JAMMING:
Spot Jamming is a form of noise jamming, where a jammer focuses all of its power on a
single frequency, it is ineffective against large bandwidth devices.

 BARRAGE JAMMING:
Barrage Jamming is the jamming of multiple frequencies at once by a single jammer. The
main drawback of this technique is that the jammer spreads its power across multiple
frequencies, making it comparatively less powerful at a single frequency.

COMPONENTS REQUIRED:

i)  Generic Wireless Audio Video Transmitting Module A/V Transmitter 2.4Ghz 4 CH XLT24017.

ii) ESWLB370204 GSM  Antenna SMA.
iii)3.3-5v Battery.

WORKING OF WI-FI JAMMER:

The Transmitter transmits noise of the same frequency as the Wi-Fi signal which in turn results
in the decrease of the signal to noise ratio (SNR)of the Wi-Fi signal, due to which the wifi signal
strength decreases significantly. Here we are going to use four such transmitters to jam the
whole bandwidth of the Wi-Fi signal.

The Transmitters (4CH XLT24017) which we are using consists of four channels. These four
channels cover the entire bandwidth of the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal(2.401-2.495GHz).A single
transmitter can only transmit through one channel.Channels can be activated as mentioned in
the above configuration.Noise which is generated by the components of the transmitter
(White noise) is transmitted through the selected channel.

Frequency range of every channel in a 2.4GHz wifi

SPOT JAMMING:

Enabling the same channel in all the 4 four transmitters is Spot jamming. Here the SNR value is
decreased to significantly lower value as compared to Barrage jammer. The main drawback of
Spot jamming is when we enable a particular channel in all the transmitters then the Wi-Fi signal
cannot be jammed if it is working on any other channel. For example: Suppose we are enabling
channel 1 in all the transmitters.

BARRAGE JAMMING:
Enabling each of the four channels in the four transmitters is Barrage jamming. The advantage of
using Barrage jammer is we can jam the signal working on any channel. But to effectively jam the
signal,we require signal amplifiers .

The minimum SNR of a  signal such that it is understood at the receiver end is 18dB. When we
use a jammer, the SNR of the receiving signal is much lesser than 18dB.
